-What are Y-chromosome Microdeletions?
Y Chromosome
These are deletions on the Y chromosome which are too small to be detected through the microscope. We detect these deletions by multiplex PCR. They are usually seen in males with azoospermia. Infertile men with these deletions can father a child with Assisted Reproduction Techniques, but they will transmit infertility to all their sons. This can be prevented by PGD if only female embryos are transferred. Another option is to use donor sperm.
